Inside the Sick Bag: Curious Collections

29/04/2017 - 28/08/2017

This exhibition re-considers the sick bag as an art form. Celebrating the visual language that these everyday objects have developed since they started to become commonplace on airplanes and ferries 60 years ago.

The exhibition looks at how the graphic aesthetic has developed over the past few decades, borrowing from Newbury based collector Andy Morris.

The exhibition also looks at the way in which artists have adopted and adapted the sick bag either as a medium or through interventions. Including work by artists Nick Cave, Lydia Leith, Emma Richardson, Nur Aida Sa’ad and Helen Snell.

Inside the Sick Bag is the first in an ongoing series of exhibitions investigating unusual collections and celebrating them as an artform.

This exhibition owes a huge thank you to Andy Morris for the loan of his collection and to Nick Cave and Canongate, who have donated one of Nick Cave’s sick bags from the book the Sick Bag Song, as well the artists Helen Snell, Lydia Leith, Emma Richardson, and Nur Aida Sa’ad.
