Imagined Futures: Peter Driver

01/09/2017 - 01/12/2017

Reading-based artist Peter Driver presents a set of large-scale woodcut prints and banners made specifically for the K6 Gallery. The works imagine a future education policy prioritising creativity, critical reasoning, and imagination as keys to fulfilling each child’s potential.

He is concerned that primary assessment, attainment targets, rote-learning and teaching-to-the-test can dominate the lives of teachers and pupils in our primary schools. This model tends to skew teaching priorities away from children’s personal development and reduce in-school time for creative activities, reading-for-pleasure, art, drama and music. In addition, the Ofsted inspection regime seems designed to impose academisation, involving the massive transfer of public assets into private ownership.

See Peter’s oppositional response to these forces at K6 Gallery from Friday 1st September.
