A Practical Nothing: Amy Lloyd

29/04/2017 - 28/07/2017

A PRACTICAL NOTHING presents two echoing poems by writer Amy Lloyd that consider the effect of the forces that work on us every day – the constant that is gravity, the shifting weight of our bodies (as our hair and nails grow and we shed cells), or the changing political norms.

The poems are focused through the experience of children, who, coming to the world fresh, experience everything as alien, and innocently prefigure our grown-up philosophies.  The poems are accompanied by Reading Games, a pamphlet of poems concerning the metaphysical weight of childhood for the writer.

Lines in both of the poems were inspired by ‘Philosophy and the Young Child’ by Gareth B Matthews.
